Maintain your smile

With Preventive Dentistry

What is included in preventive care?

Preventive care is the key to a healthy smile. During routine check-ups at Driftwood Family Dental, our specialists will thoroughly clean your teeth and assess your dental health to make sure that we catch any issues early. This includes an oral cancer screening and a TMJ muscle exam. These checks not only ensure that the tissues in your mouth and throat are healthy, but that your mouth and jaw are functioning properly and comfortably. Plus, regular preventive cleanings will free your mouth from harmful bacteria build-up and give you peace of mind that your smile is strong and healthy. Call us now to schedule an appointment!

What is periodontal care?

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is one of the most common dental health issues, affecting about half of American adults. At Driftwood Family Dental, we offer services to help our patients prevent and treat periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease occurs when plaque forms on your teeth and causes your gums to become inflamed, eventually creating pockets where bacteria becomes trapped. During scaling and root planing, our hygienists or dentists clean out these pockets to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. Call us today to learn more about our options for periodontal care.

With Cosmetic Dentistry

What kinds of cosmetic imperfections can be corrected?

If discoloration, chips, or uneven teeth are keeping you from a confident smile, Driftwood Family Dental offers cosmetic options that can help. Larger cracks or damage may need restorative options to get your teeth back to proper shape and function, but cosmetic options can fix many exterior imperfections.

What kinds of teeth whitening treatments do you offer?

At Driftwood Family Dental, can brighten your smile with our in-office and take-home teeth whitening services. If you are looking to whiten your smile quickly for a special event like a wedding, reunion, or photo shoot, in-office whitening can brighten your smile up to 10 shades in just one appointment.

Our take-home option allows you to use your custom-made whitening tray in the comfort of your own home, and achieve more gradual results. Call us today to schedule an appointment and discuss your options for a brighter smile!

How can veneers improve my smile?

We are able to correct discolorations, misshapen teeth, and small chips with porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin “shells” that are custom-made to fit over your teeth and cover imperfections, giving you a new, refreshed smile. The veneers are bonded into place permanently, and the treatment typically only takes two appointments.

If the imperfections are small enough, like minor chips, discoloration or unevenness, we can use bonding and reshaping to get teeth looking uniform and beautiful.

I’m missing teeth. Which replacement option is right for me?

If you are missing teeth, we offer dental implant restorations as well as full or partial dentures to give you your smile back. Dental implants are an ideal option for patients with healthy gums and jawbone that are strong enough to support the implant.

If you are looking for a removable option, or if your gums and jawbone cannot support a surgically inserted implant, natural-looking dentures from Driftwood Family Dental may be right for you. Call us today to learn more about your options and discuss which replacement is the best choice for you and your smile!

Get out of pain and smile again

With Emergency Dentistry

Do you offer same-day appointments?

At Driftwood Family Dental, we know how stressful and painful dental emergencies can be. We offer same-day appointments for our patients because we believe that you deserve efficient, compassionate care if you’re in pain. We prioritize emergency cases, and always try our best to get you in as soon as possible.

What is a dental emergency?

Any situation that causes pain and cannot be treated on your own qualifies as a dental emergency. If your mouth is bleeding excessively, or your tooth has been knocked out in an accident, we can help with immediate care! Emergencies also include persistent toothaches, or dental work that has become loose or fallen out. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team if you are experiencing any of these situations.

My tooth was knocked out! What should I do?

The most important thing you should do if your tooth has been knocked-out in an injury or accident is to stay calm. Make an emergency same-day appointment right away by calling us at (252) 441-5811. Keep your knocked-out tooth in its socket or in a cold cup of milk until your appointment. This will keep its pulp safe and increase the odds of saving your tooth.

Avoid stress and pain

With Sedation Dentistry

What sedation options do you offer at Driftwood Family Dental?

If you are nervous about your upcoming dental appointment, or you need an extensive treatment to restore your smile, we have sedation options that will make your treatment more comfortable. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, so we offer nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas”, and oral sedation as options for patients who wish to minimize pain and avoid any discomfort during their treatment.

How does laughing gas work?

Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is inhaled. When this sedative takes effect it gives the patient feelings of relaxation and euphoria. During your treatment, you’ll be awake and able to respond, but you’ll be calm and stress-free. Since laughing gas wears off quickly, you’ll even be able to drive yourself home after your appointment.

What is oral conscious sedation?

We also offer oral conscious sedation, which is taken in pill form. This sedative gives the patient a feeling of deep relaxation, so after treatment, you may feel drowsy and be unable to recall your procedure. Since oral sedation doesn’t wear off as quickly as laughing gas, you’ll need to arrange a ride home after your visit. Call us today to learn more about how sedation options can help you enjoy your visit!

Straighten your smile

With Clear Aligners

What orthodontic options do you offer?

If uneven, gapped, or over-crowded teeth are keeping you from a confident smile, Driftwood Family Dental has clear aligner options that will give you a beautiful smile. We offer Invisalign and ClearCorrect to give patients stress-free treatment for the smile of their dreams.

During your initial consultation, one of our dentists will assess your teeth, mouth and gums and determine whether or not clear aligner therapy is right for you. If not, we will refer you to a qualified dentist who will help you explore your options.

How do ClearCorrect and Invisalign work?

Invisalign and ClearCorrect aligners are nearly invisible, so nobody needs to know that you’re in the middle of orthodontic treatment except for you. Each treatment involves multiple sets of thin, clear plastic aligners that gradually shift your teeth into proper position. These life-changing aligners have given millions of people the straight smiles they’ve always wanted, so give us a call today at (252) 441-5811 to see if clear aligners are the right option for you!

What do I need to know about wearing my aligners?

To get the most out of your clear aligners, it’s important to wear them at least 22 hours per day. This means that you should only remove your Invisalign or ClearCorrect aligners when you eat and when you brush/floss your teeth. To care for your aligners, rinse them off with warm water every night. Don’t hesitate to call Driftwood Family Dental if you have any questions about your aligners! You can reach us at (252) 441-5811.

Sleep Apnea Treatments

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which breathing continuously stops and starts during sleep. There are three types: Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form and occurs when the throat muscles relax and block the airway. Central sleep apnea occurs when your brain fails to send signals to the muscles that control breathing. Complex sleep apnea syndrome (also known as treatment-emergent central sleep apnea) happens when a patient has both obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea.

How do I know I have sleep apnea?

It may be difficult to tell if you have sleep apnea as you’re asleep when symptoms take place. But if you or your partner have noticed any of the following symptoms, it may be time to see a professional:
• Loud snoring
• Episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep
• Gasping for air during sleep
• Awakening with a dry mouth
• Morning headache
• Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
• Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
• Difficulty paying attention while awake
• Irritability

How is sleep apnea treated?

Depending on your case, treatments can range from a simple night guard to a CPAP machine. Night guards can adjust your bite to eliminate obstructions and keep your airways open while you sleep. If you’re suffering from a severe form of sleep apnea, a CPAP machine may be necessary to alleviate symptoms and help you sleep comfortably. Whatever your symptoms or experiences, our doctors can help you find the solution that’s right for you.
